7,400 Retail Food Inspections conducted

Foodborne Illness Response and Tracking
As part of the FDA’s Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standard 5 – Foodborne Illness (FBI) and Food Defense Preparedness and Response, FPS has developed procedures for investigating and reporting foodborne illnesses and reviewing prior FBI complaint data.
127 Foodborne Illness (FBI) complaints received
Establishment type breakdown:
- 7 Retail Food Grocery Stores
- 2 Retail Food Convenience
- 1 Bar with food service
- 55 Fast Food Restaurants
- 60 Full Service Restaurants
50 Foodborne Illness Complaints investigated out of 127 foodborne illness allegations received
The inspector must contact the complainant within 24 hours to gather additional information and assess whether an onsite investigation is warranted if the food related illness or injury complaint involves only one household. After following up with the complainant, the inspector may choose to perform an environmental investigation or inform the complainant that further investigation will be conducted if additional complaints are received.
Mentorship with Health Departments
Starting February 2023, FPS began mentoring two other health departments as a part of National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) and US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards Grant Program.
FPS was paired with Coconino County in Arizona and Beaverhead County in Montana to assist their retail food programs in improving the quality of their food protection programs and therefore their communities.
